The interesting thing about cancer is that it has a very wide range of causes. Genetics is not a cause for cancer, but it does significantly increase your chances. One of the reasons why there are so many more cases of cancer today has to do with the environment. The more technology evolves, the more the environment gets more and more lethal. Did they have smog producing factories centuries ago? Did they use harmful pesticides to treat mass quantities of crops? How about non-natural preservatives in foods? Artificial coloring? An intact ozone layer? I'm willing to bet there are more cases of cancer today than in the history of mankind. Of course that'd be impossible to prove. However, our lab is detecting more cases of multiple myeloma than ever.
Probably your best chances of not getting cancer is to live in the rural country, eat organic foods, take multivitamins, exercise, and have regular checkups. Even then, it's a crapshoot. Cancer likes to play the "random" game as well. |
